Neighbourhoods
Recommended Neighbourhoods
Gurugram is a city of master-planned communities rather than organic neighbourhoods. DLF Phases 1 through 5 form the premium spine, with Golf Course Road connecting them. For intra-India relocations, the right choice depends on your office location, your children's school, and whether you want villa, apartment, or integrated township living.
1
DLF Phase 1
Independent Villas & Builder Floors
Tree-lined low-rise colonies of independent villas on 250-500 sq yd plots, the original premium pocket from DLF's 1990s master plan. DLF Phase 1 is a well-established, premium residential neighbourhood known for its low-density layout and independent homes, primarily made up of plotted houses and builder floors spread across sectors like 26, 26A, and 28. It offers spacious living, mature greenery, and a strong neighbourhood culture. MG Road is the closest major shopping destination, a popular retail and lifestyle hub with multiple malls and open-air shopping complexes. The area is well connected to NH-48 and close to Ambience Mall, one of the largest malls in the region.

2
DLF Phase 2 & 3
Apartment Communities
DLF Phase 2 and 3 is a well-connected upscale residential area offering a mix of gated apartment complexes and independent builder floors. The neighbourhood is well connected to Cyber City and MG Road, giving easy access to malls, restaurants, and entertainment options. The locality has smooth connectivity to National Highway-48, the Delhi border, and IGI Airport, making daily travel across the National Capital Region convenient. Cyber City is a 10 to 15 minute drive away. The default choice for mid-senior consulting and banking professionals.

3
DLF Phase 4 / 5 · Golf Course Road
Premium Golf Course Corridor
DLF Phase 4 and Phase 5 together form one of Gurugram's most premium residential corridors along Golf Course Road (this area covers Sector 54), offering a strong mix of low-rise independent living and high-rise luxury condominiums, highly preferred for senior corporate and intra-India relocations. Phase 4 functions as a low-density, well-established residential micro-market with independent floors and apartment living, with excellent connectivity to Golf Course Road and nearby commercial hubs; Sushant Lok Phase 1 (Sector 42 / 43) and Suncity Township border it. Phase 5 is the more modern high-rise zone, featuring premium gated condominiums such as The Park Place, Belaire, Parsvnath Exotica, and Palm Drive, alongside DLF Phase 5's ultra-luxury condominiums, with larger club-style amenities and enhanced security.
The Dwarka Expressway corridor, often called New Gurugram, is a well-connected, fast-emerging belt of modern gated apartment complexes across the newer sectors. With the expressway now open, it offers a faster alternate route to IGI Airport and improving links to Cyber City. The standout draw is value: contemporary builds and full amenities at rents well below the established DLF Phases, making it a genuinely attractive option for domestic movers on a practical budget. A strong fit for professionals and families who want newer, larger homes without Golf Course Road pricing.

Sectors 53-55 / Nirvana Country
Integrated Township
Unitech Nirvana Country is a large integrated township in Sector 50-51, offering clubhouse facilities, parks, jogging tracks, and an internal retail strip (Nirvana Courtyard), a self-contained residential ecosystem. Nearby developments such as Central Park Resorts in Sector 48 also offer township-style luxury living. Particularly popular with families relocating from Bangalore or Hyderabad who miss township lifestyle.
Families wanting community feel, those relocating from township cities
6
Golf Course Extension Road / Sohna Road
Value & Space
Sector 56 and Sushant Lok 2 are established residential pockets with a mix of builder floors, independent homes, and gated communities. Sohna Road has developed into a high-density residential and commercial corridor with multiple modern apartment complexes and integrated townships catering to mid-to-upper corporate segments. Golf Course Extension Road is a premium, fast-developing residential belt featuring modern luxury condominiums, gated communities, and high-rise developments, preferred by senior professionals seeking contemporary amenities. Manesar, further out, is an emerging industrial and residential hub offering larger plotted developments and more affordable housing options.

IKAN Tip: The key trade-off in Gurugram neighbourhood selection is between Cyber City proximity (DLF Phases 1-5, Golf Course Road) and value-led space (Nirvana Country, Golf Course Extension/Sohna, Dwarka Expressway / New Gurugram). If your work is in Cyber City and budget allows, prioritise DLF Phase 2/3. If you want newer, larger homes at lower rents, the Dwarka Expressway corridor and Sohna Road are strong domestic-mover picks. IKAN arranges property viewings within 48 hours of your arrival.

Housing Market
Renting in Gurugram · 2026 Reality
Gurugram's rental market is concentrated in DLF Phases 1-5 and the Golf Course Road corridor. Supply is well-organised, developer-managed gated complexes dominate. For intra-India relocators, the city's structure and contracts are familiar; the new realities are Gurugram-specific water and air-quality considerations covered later in this guide.

Rental Rules
Gurugram Market Practices
Lease duration: An 11-month Lease is standard, renewable with 5-10% rent escalation. Leases with a tenure of more than 1 year are required to be registered at the Sub-Registrar's Office in Gurugram
Security deposit: 2 to 3 months' rent is standard practice
Real-estate agent fee: Equivalent to 1 month's rent, paid at the time of lease signing
Lock-in period: 6 to 12 months (negotiable). Neither the Lessee nor the Lessor may terminate or break the contract during the lock-in period
Notice period: One to two months either way is standard
Furnishing: Semi-furnished accommodation is the standard offering with built-in cupboards and kitchen. Fully furnished accommodation is rare and comes at a premium
Documentation: PAN. IKAN helps negotiate and prepare your Lease
Stamp duty: 1.5% of total Lease value for Haryana lease stamping
Society move-in: Most gated complexes require an RWA move-in NOC, a one-time move-in charge, a refundable move-in deposit, and tenant police verification before handing over gate access
Tax Withholding (TDS) Compliance: Under Section 194-IB, a tenant paying rent above ₹50,000 per month must deduct TDS at 2% (rate effective October 2024) and deposit it against the landlord's PAN; consult a tax professional to stay compliant
2026 Trends
What's Moving in Gurugram
Golf Course Road appreciation: 18-25% rent increase across DLF Phase 2/3/5 over 24 months
Dwarka Expressway opening: 15% rent premium emerging on properties along the corridor
RRTS (approved corridor): Likely to lift values in Manesar, Sohna, and Bhondsi after opening
Best value segment: Sectors 53-55 townships (Nirvana, Central Park) offer the strongest rent-to-amenity ratio, clubhouse living below Golf Course Road rates.
New premium supply: DLF's The Arbour and M3M Golf Estate handovers along SPR are softening rents in older Sohna Road builds as tenants upgrade
Corporate leases preferred: Landlords often favour company leases over personal ones, Cyber City employers absorb furnished DLF Phase 2/3 inventory on corporate leases, which squeezes individual tenants; negotiate hardest in the Mar to Jun off-season
Rental yields: Holding at a thin 2.5-3% on Golf Course Road premium stock, but a healthier 3.5-4% on New Gurugram (Dwarka Expressway) ready-to-move units

Schools
Gurugram Schools · All Options
Gurugram's school landscape spans CBSE and full IB/IGCSE international schools, with most premium options clustered along the Golf Course Road / Aravali corridor. Top CBSE schools typically have waitlists of 3 to 6 months with stringent admission criteria and mid-term admissions are difficult. Begin applications before your move whenever possible. IKAN recommends schools based on your corridor and curriculum preference.

IKAN helps you identify the right hospital network before you arrive. Medanta, Fortis Memorial, and Artemis all maintain direct billing arrangements with most major Indian insurers (Star Health, ICICI Lombard, HDFC ERGO, Niva Bupa).
Women's safety: Gurugram's corporate corridors, malls and gated societies are generally safe, including after dark, but, as across the wider NCR, sensible precautions matter. Prefer app-based cabs (Ola/Uber) with live trip-sharing over street autos late at night, keep the 24x7 Women Helpline (1091) and the all-emergency number (112) saved, and use the Haryana-112 and My SafetiPin apps. Most societies run 24x7 gated security; share your driver or cab details with family on late-night commutes.

Membership is typically available only to DLF property owners or tenants in certain DLF developments, with joining fees that can run around ₹15-35 lakh or more. A Gary Player-designed championship 18-hole course plus a 9-hole Arnold Palmer course; senior corporate networking happens on the greens.
RWA Culture
Resident Welfare Associations
Gurugram's gated communities run on RWAs. Get to know your building's RWA committee in the first week, they manage maintenance, security, guest passes, and the WhatsApp group where 80% of community communication happens.
Festival Calendar
Plan Around Diwali
Diwali (late October / early November) is NCR's signature festival, fireworks, gift hampers, society gatherings. Coincides with peak air pollution week. Plan an out-of-NCR trip for Diwali week if you have sensitive children or asthma. Mithai exchange with neighbours builds genuine goodwill.
Out & About
Leisure Valley, Cyber Hub & Galleria
Leisure Valley Park anchors Gurugram's green open-air leisure, while DLF Cyber Hub and Galleria Market provide the everyday social heartbeat, outdoor dining terraces, weekend brunches, live music nights, and casual neighbourhood cafés. Easy, accessible places to unwind in your first six months.
Culture & Heritage
Gurugram's Cultural Layer
Gurugram is a young city, most of what you see was built after 2000, on former Haryana farmland. For deep cultural heritage you commute into Delhi proper: Khan Market for galleries, Hauz Khas for design, India Gate and Lutyens for monuments, Lodhi Gardens for evening walks. Gurugram contributes the modern layer, Leisure Valley Park, DLF Cyber Hub, Galleria Market, contemporary art at MGF Metropolitan, and a corporate-cultural calendar driven by international institutions.
Oct to Nov
Diwali Across NCR
Five days of light and fireworks. Gurugram's apartment complexes light up spectacularly; the corporate calendar revolves around Diwali parties. Note: coincides with peak air pollution week, if you have sensitive children, plan an out-of-NCR trip for the worst days. Joining the mithai-hamper exchange tradition helps strengthen bonding with your peers and neighbourhood.
Year-round
Leisure Valley, Cyber Hub & Galleria
Gurugram's everyday cultural and leisure anchors: Leisure Valley Park for open-air green space and events, DLF Cyber Hub for outdoor dining and live music, and Galleria Market for casual neighbourhood gatherings. For corporate transferees with families, accessible, year-round venues to relax and meet the community.
Year-round
Leisure Valley & DLF Golf
Leisure Valley Park is Gurugram's central green lung, landscaped gardens, walking trails, and an open-air amphitheatre for events. Nearby, the DLF Golf & Country Club offers manicured fairways and the city's most surprising patch of green. The easiest leafy escape from concrete Gurugram. Best at sunrise on a weekend, combine with breakfast in Galleria Market on the return.
March
Spring & NCR Cultural Calendar
March brings Holi (society courtyards turn into pools of colour for a morning), the India Art Fair, the India Design Forum, and prime safari season at Sariska and Ranthambore. The Jaipur Literature Festival every January draws many Gurugram corporate regulars. Spring is also when the Aravali biodiversity trails come to life.
Year-round
Places of Worship
Gurugram is religiously diverse. The Sheetla Mata Mandir is the city's best-known Hindu temple, and neighbourhood mandirs, mosques, gurudwaras and churches serve communities across the sectors and DLF Phases. Delhi's major shrines, the Chhatarpur Temple, Jama Masjid, Bangla Sahib Gurudwara and the Cathedral Church of the Redemption, are 30 to 60 minutes away. IKAN can point you to your nearest congregation.
Local Language Guide
Hindi, English, & the Gurugram Vernacular
Gurugram's working language is English, Cyber City offices, premium restaurants, and international schools all operate fully in English. Hindi is universal. Haryanvi (Hindi's local dialect) is the language of older Gurugram, of construction, security, and household staff. A few Hindi phrases earn immediate warmth, especially with your RWA committee, building staff, and household help.
नमस्ते / नमस्कार
Greeting
Namaste / Namaskar
The universal Indian greeting. Use with everyone, landlord, security guard, kirana shopkeeper. Hands together, slight bow of the head. Universally appreciated, even from those for whom Hindi is a third or fourth language.
धन्यवाद / शुक्रिया
Thanks
Dhanyavaad / Shukriya
Thank you. Dhanyavaad is formal/Sanskrit; shukriya is colloquial/Urdu. Both work across Gurugram. “Thank you” in English is also universally understood, but Hindi shows you have made the effort.
भैया
Address
Bhaiyya / Bro
“Bhaiyya” literally means brother, used to address auto drivers, shopkeepers, security staff, kirana store owners. “Bro” is equally common, particularly in Cyber Hub. Both are polite and friendly.
जी
Respect
Ji
A respectful suffix added to names and addresses. “Sharma ji” for Mr Sharma. Use with anyone older or senior, adds an instant layer of respect that goes a long way with household staff and your RWA committee.
भैयाजी की दुकान
Local
Bhaiyaji ki dukaan
“The brother’s shop”, your nearest kirana store. Every gated community has one or two near the gate. Build a relationship in week one: they remember your milk preferences, deliver to your door, and stock everything from Maggi to mineral water tanks.
जुगाड़
Slang
Jugaad
The resourceful Indian improvisation mindset, the workaround that probably shouldn’t work but does. Essential vocabulary for navigating Gurugram’s bureaucracy, water-tanker arrangements, RWA politics, and daily life.
खाना खाया?
Hospitality
Khaana khaya?
“Have you eaten?”, the universal Indian hospitality opener. If you say no, food will be offered. Saying “haan, khaana ho gaya, dhanyavaad” (yes, I’ve eaten, thank you) is the polite response. Used by RWA members, household staff, and senior colleagues equally.
पानी कब आएगा?
Practical
Paani kab aayega?
“When will the water come?”, a handy phrase for managing daily logistics. Know your society’s water-supply timing and any tanker top-up schedule your building uses during peak summer.
ठीक है
Reply
Theek hai
“Okay” / “All right”, the most-used phrase in any Hindi conversation. Punctuates agreement, transitions, and end-of-conversation. Use freely with everyone, colleagues, drivers, shop owners, your RWA secretary.
कितने का है?
Bargaining
Kitne ka hai?
“How much is it?”, essential in markets. Pair with a polite smile. Don’t accept the first price at non-fixed-price shops. Local markets like Arjan Garh or the Hong Kong market are the place to practice. The kirana shops and the malls have fixed prices, don’t bargain there.
यार
Slang
Yaar
“Friend” / “Dude”, the universal NCR addition to almost any sentence among colleagues and friends. “Kya yaar” = “What, dude”. You will hear it dozens of times in any Cyber Hub conversation. Use freely.

Gurugram Airport Essentials
Indira Gandhi International Airport, T3 handles all international and most major domestic operations. Travel time from Cyber City: 18km / 30 to 45 min off-peak. From DLF Phase 1: 22km / 40 to 60 min off-peak. Domestic check-in: arrive 90 minutes early. The Dwarka Expressway (2026) offers a faster alternate route for northern Gurugram. T1 handles low-cost domestic carriers (IndiGo, SpiceJet domestic), check your ticket before heading to T3. The Delhi Metro Airport Express connects Cyber City via Yellow Line interchange at New Delhi station.
Transport & Metro
Getting Around Gurugram
Gurugram was built for cars and now strains under their volume. The Rapid Metro and Delhi Metro Yellow Line offer rail alternatives within and out of the city, but most intra-India transferees settle into a chauffeur-driven car routine within their first month. Walkability is real in select pockets, Cyber Hub, Galleria Market, and the internal sectors of DLF Phase 2/3, but driving infrastructure remains the city's spine.
Metro Lines (2026)
Rapid Metro Gurugram
Gurugram's own privately-operated elevated metro, 11 stations across 11.7km serving the DLF developments. Connects DLF Cyber City to Sikanderpur (interchange with Delhi Metro Yellow Line) and onward along MG Road. The game-changer for Cyber City professionals. Single ticket: ₹20.
Delhi Metro · Yellow Line
The Yellow Line extends from Delhi into Gurugram, terminating at Millennium City Centre (Sector 29; formerly HUDA City Centre). Gurugram stops: Guru Dronacharya, Sikanderpur, MG Road, IFFCO Chowk, Millennium City Centre. Connects to Connaught Place, AIIMS, Hauz Khas. The standard rail route to Delhi proper. 45 to 55 min Cyber City to Connaught Place.
RRTS Delhi-Alwar (approved corridor)
Regional Rapid Transit Phase 1 will connect Delhi's Sarai Kale Khan to Alwar via Gurugram, Manesar, Shahjahanpur, Neemrana, and Behror. Phase 1 (to Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror) is targeted for around 2028, though independent estimates suggest passenger services may begin later (around 2031). Expected to dramatically cut Delhi-Gurugram commute times and lift property values along the corridor.
Future Magenta Line Extension
Delhi Metro's Magenta Line extension into Gurugram is under planning. When operational, it will offer a second metro corridor connecting Gurugram via South Delhi to Noida.
Day-to-Day Transport
Personal Driver
Most professionals hire a full-time chauffeur (₹25-35k/month). Vetted Gurugram-specific driver agencies are common, IKAN coordinates RTO paperwork. The single biggest quality-of-life decision for Gurugram residents.
Ola / Uber
Both work well. Ola Corporate via Cyber City employer travel desks. Keep both apps, surge pricing during 5-10pm peak and rain makes both essential. Ola Outstation for one-way airport drops.
Auto-Rickshaws
Available across Gurugram but less metered than other cities. Negotiate the fare before boarding. Rapido Bike (₹50-150 for solo hops) is often faster and cheaper for short distances.
Employer Shuttles
Cyber City employer shuttles are common, most major MNCs run dedicated employee transport from key residential clusters (DLF Phase 1-5, Sushant Lok, Sectors 53-55). Confirm with your employer's travel desk on Day 1.
Key Tip for Intra-India Relocators: The biggest adjustment from Bangalore, Mumbai, or Hyderabad is that Gurugram driving requires a full-time chauffeur to be liveable. Test your commute in all three conditions, off-peak, peak (5:30-10pm), and monsoon, before settling on a permanent neighbourhood. The Rapid Metro from Cyber City to MG Road or Galleria is 10 minutes flat, use it during evening peaks. IKAN handles all RTO coordination for vehicle registration and driver licensing.
Climate
What to Expect Each Month
Gurugram shares Delhi's continental climate, intensely hot summers, a short monsoon, and genuinely cold winters. The defining climate concern, however, is air quality. From October through February, pollution levels in Gurugram rise significantly, affecting overall air quality. Coming from Mumbai, Bangalore, or Hyderabad, the AQI is the single largest climate adjustment, HEPA air purifiers in every bedroom are highly recommended and often considered essential.

Winter · Cold & Polluted
November to February
Genuinely cold for India, 5-15°C overnight, 13-22°C daytime. For arrivals from Bangalore, Mumbai, or Hyderabad, the cold itself is a meaningful adjustment, heavy quilts and room heaters become necessary. The defining issue is air quality: AQI regularly exceeds 300 (Very Poor) and crosses 500 (Severe) during stubble-burning windows. HEPA air purifiers in every bedroom are essential, N95 masks during Diwali week. December/January morning fog often closes IGI Airport intermittently.
HEPA purifiers in every bedroom, essential
Heavy winter coat for Dec to Jan mornings
Build flight buffer for IGI fog disruptions
Summer · Dry Heat
April to June
35-45°C, sometimes 46°C in May/June. The good news for arrivals from Mumbai or Hyderabad: low humidity makes it feel less brutal than coastal humidity, and Gurugram's modern buildings handle the heat well. The bad news: extreme afternoon temperatures preclude any outdoor activity 11am-5pm. Pre-monsoon dust storms (loo winds) blow through May. Hydration critical, ORS sachets become a household standard.
Stay indoors 11am-5pm in May/June
ORS sachets a household standard
Service ACs by March, they will run continuously
Monsoon
July to September
Less intense than Mumbai's, 600-900mm across three months. But Gurugram's storm-water drainage is poor and underpasses flood regularly (Hero Honda Chowk, NH-48 service lanes). When it rains, traffic can take 2 to 3 hours to clear a 10km commute. The relief is real: monsoon clears the air, the Aravalis turn green, and weekend escapes to Damdama or Manesar are spectacular.
Hero Honda Chowk underpass floods, avoid during rain
Allow 2x commute time during heavy showers
Air quality at year's best, exercise outdoors freely
Watch Out
What Nobody Tells Intra-India Relocators
These are the things Gurugram won't tell you upfront, but every experienced intra-India transferee eventually learns. Know them before you arrive in NCR's corporate capital.
Winter Air Pollution
If you are arriving from Bangalore, Mumbai, or Hyderabad, NCR winter air will be a completely new category of bad. AQI regularly crosses 300 (Very Poor) and 500 (Severe) from late October through February. HEPA air purifiers in every bedroom are highly recommended and often considered essential. Plan an out-of-NCR trip for Diwali week if you have sensitive children or asthma. This is the single largest adjustment for intra-India transferees.
Summer Water Top-Ups
Piped water supply in Gurugram is generally reliable, but during peak summer some societies supplement with private water tankers to cover demand. Confirm your prospective society's water arrangement before signing, well-managed RWAs handle this seamlessly, so it rarely affects day-to-day living in established gated complexes.
Cyber City Peak-Hour Gridlock
The road network around DLF Cyber City, Iffco Chowk, MG Road, NH-48 service lanes, gridlocks at peak hours: morning 8:30-11am and evening 5-9:30pm. A 5km journey can take 60 minutes. Plan to travel outside these windows where you can. The Rapid Metro is 10 minutes for the same distance during peak. Adjust your social and family schedules to Gurugram's traffic windows or lose two hours a day.
School Waitlists
Top CBSE schools (DPS Sushant Lok, K R Mangalam) and premium international schools (Heritage School, Scottish High) typically have waitlists of 3 to 6 months for popular grades. Mid-term admissions are difficult. Begin applications before your move whenever possible. IKAN recommends schools based on your corridor and curriculum preference.
Lease Reality
Gurugram uses 11-month Lease agreements with a 2 to 3 month security deposit. Annual escalation is 5-10%. The 11-month term is standard because any Lease with a tenure longer than 1 year must be registered at the Sub-Registrar's Office in Gurugram; 11-month agreements only require stamping. Documentation required is PAN, not employment letter or salary slips. Expect a lock-in period of 6 to 12 months during which neither party may break the contract; the real-estate agent fee is around one month's rent, paid at signing. Never accept verbal agreements, insist on a properly stamped Lease before paying.
DG Backup Reality
Power outages are less frequent than in Delhi proper but real, especially in summer. Premium gated complexes have backup generators (DG sets) covering common areas plus basic flat power (lights, fans, one AC). Full-power backup is rare. Confirm exactly what the DG covers in your prospective complex, and budget for an inverter if comprehensive backup matters.
Civic Infrastructure Inconsistency
Gurugram's NH-48 corridor and main arterials are world-class. Internal sector roads are routinely potholed and waterlogged. Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) is overstretched; basic services (street lighting, drainage, garbage collection) vary by area and depend heavily on a well-functioning RWA. DLF Phases 1-5 and Golf Course Road are generally well-maintained; older sectors are less reliable.
Cultural Thinness
For a city of its commercial weight, Gurugram is culturally light. Theatres, museums, music venues, and heritage sites concentrate in Delhi proper, 30 to 45 minutes away on a good day. Build your cultural calendar around weekend trips into central Delhi (Khan Market, Hauz Khas, Lutyens precinct) or accept that Gurugram's strength is corporate, not cultural. Leisure Valley Park, DLF Cyber Hub, and Galleria Market fill the gap partially.
Maintenance Charges (CAM)
Premium DLF and Golf Course Road complexes carry steep monthly maintenance, ₹8-15 per sq ft, often ₹20,000-50,000 a month on top of rent for a large unit. It covers clubhouse, security, power-backup and water-tanker logistics, but is frequently quoted separately and overlooked. Always ask for the exact CAM figure and what it includes before you sign, it can add 15-20% to your effective housing cost.
Apps & Digital Life
Gurugram Digital Toolkit
Gurugram's digital infrastructure is excellent. Download these apps before you arrive and your first week will run significantly more smoothly. Most work NCR-wide with good reliability.
Ola / UberKeep both. Ola surges less during rain. Ola Corporate accounts available through most Cyber City employers. Ola Outstation handles one-way airport drops and weekend-escape runs to Jaipur or Neemrana.
Delhi Metro & Rapid MetroDMRC app for Yellow Line into Gurugram. Rapid Metro Gurugram is a separately operated private metro, download its dedicated app. Both accept smart-card and QR ticketing.
RapidoBike taxis for fast solo hops, particularly useful during peak-hour traffic when a Rapido bike outpaces any car. Auto-rickshaw bookings also available through the same app.
Food, Grocery & Delivery
Zomato / SwiggyBoth cover Gurugram comprehensively. Delivery in 25 to 35 minutes across DLF Phases 1-5 and Golf Course Road. Zomato Gold membership worthwhile for regular restaurant orders.
Blinkit / Zepto / BigBasketBlinkit (Zomato) and Zepto for 10 to 15 minute instant delivery, universal in DLF area. BigBasket for weekly groceries. Modern Bazaar and Le Marché apps for imported and premium products.
Healthcare & Services
Practo / 1mg / Apollo247Practo for GP appointments at Medanta, Fortis, or Artemis. 1mg for online pharmacy and home sample collection. Apollo247 for video consultations. All operate in English with home delivery.
Urban CompanyHome services: AC servicing, deep cleaning, beauty, electricians, plumbers. Reliable, English-language interface, transparent pricing. The most useful app for managing your Gurugram home.
Utilities
Amazon Pay / PaytmHow most residents actually pay bills, electricity (DHBVN), mobile postpaid, credit card, gas and water, in one place. The DHBVN portal exists, but Amazon Pay and Paytm are simpler for recurring payments.
MyGate / NoBrokerHoodThe building app for gated societies, pay maintenance and utilities, log visitors, and raise maintenance tickets for plumbing, electrical or carpentry. Ask your RWA which one your complex uses.
Jio / Airtel / ACT FibernetJio and Airtel both excellent. ACT Fibernet for home broadband in DLF complexes. Port your existing mobile number, most operators handle Mumbai/Bangalore/Hyderabad number porting in 7 days.
Settling In
Your First 60 Days in Gurugram
Intra-India moves to Gurugram have fewer bureaucratic steps than international moves, but more logistical complexity than most other Indian city transfers. IKAN manages the sequence to keep nothing from falling through the cracks.
1
Update Your Local Address Records
Within the first 30 days, update the address on the records that unlock local services in Gurugram, Aadhaar, bank account, vehicle RC, driving licence, and your employer's HR/payroll records. Update your Aadhaar address online at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in or at any Aadhaar Seva Kendra with proof of your new address, it underpins KYC for banks, schools and gas connections. Keep a copy of your registered rental agreement handy as address proof; it is what most banks, schools, and utilities will ask for.
2
Bank Account Transfer or New Account
If your existing bank has Gurugram branches (HDFC, ICICI, Axis Bank, HSBC all do), transfer your account to a branch near your new address. Alternatively, open a new account at HDFC, HSBC, or Axis Bank with your PAN and rental agreement. New accounts typically open within 3-5 working days. HSBC's Cyber City branch has dedicated international and senior corporate relationship managers.
3
Utilities & Building Setup
Register on your building's WhatsApp group immediately, this is where maintenance, RWA meetings, and building announcements are shared. Set up auto-pay for electricity, broadband (ACT Fibernet / Jio Fiber), and piped gas if applicable. Confirm the water-supply arrangement with your RWA.
4
Vehicle Registration & Driver Setup
If you are bringing a vehicle from another state, IKAN handles all RTO coordination, Haryana RTO transfer paperwork, new HR-26 registration if required, and driving licence address update. Hire a full-time chauffeur (₹25,000-35,000/month) through a vetted Gurugram agency. Set up Ola Corporate via your employer's travel desk on Day 1.
5
School Admission Process
CBSE-to-CBSE transfers require Transfer Certificate (TC) from your previous school and mark sheets. Top CBSE schools typically have waitlists of 3 to 6 months with stringent admission criteria and mid-term admissions are difficult. Begin applications before your move whenever possible. IKAN recommends schools based on your corridor and curriculum preference.
6
Set Up the Indoor Environment
Order HEPA air purifiers (one per bedroom + living room) before the November pollution season begins. Dyson, Honeywell, Coway, and Mi all offer good options at varying price points. Install N95 masks at the door for sensitive household members. Confirm your apartment's central AC servicing is current, Gurugram summers run them continuously.
Address Updates
Document Transfers
Vehicle RC transfer: Haryana RTO via Parivahan portal, IKAN handles all RTO coordination · Driving licence address: Parivahan portal · Bank and employer/HR records: update to your new Gurugram address. Do these in the first 30 days, they unlock everything else downstream.
Transport
Commute Strategy
Hire a full-time driver (₹25-35k/month), non-negotiable for daily Gurugram liveability. Test your commute in three conditions, off-peak, peak (5:30-10pm), and monsoon, before settling on a permanent neighbourhood. The Rapid Metro is 10 minutes Cyber City to MG Road, use it during peak.
