Getting around Gurugram
Gurugram was built for cars, and it now struggles with how many there are.
The Rapid Metro and the Delhi Metro Yellow Line give you rail options in and out of the city. Even so, most people moving from other Indian cities settle into using a car with a driver within their first month. A few pockets are walkable, such as Cyber Hub, Galleria Market and the inner sectors of DLF Phase 2/3. The rest of the city is built around its roads.

Rapid Metro Gurugram
Gurugram's own privately-operated elevated metro, 11 stations across 11.7km serving the DLF developments. Connects DLF Cyber City to Sikanderpur (interchange with Delhi Metro Yellow Line) and onward along MG Road. A big help for Cyber City professionals. Single ticket: ₹20.₹20
Delhi Metro · Yellow Line
The Yellow Line extends from Delhi into Gurugram, terminating at Millennium City Centre (Sector 29; formerly HUDA City Centre). Gurugram stops: Guru Dronacharya, Sikanderpur, MG Road, IFFCO Chowk, Millennium City Centre. Connects to Connaught Place, AIIMS, Hauz Khas. The standard rail route to Delhi proper. 45 to 55 min Cyber City to Connaught Place.45 to 55 min
RRTS Delhi-Alwar (approved corridor)
Regional Rapid Transit Phase 1 will connect Delhi's Sarai Kale Khan to Alwar via Gurugram, Manesar, Shahjahanpur, Neemrana, and Behror. Phase 1 (to Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror) is targeted for around 2028, though independent estimates suggest passenger services may begin later (around 2031). Expected to dramatically cut Delhi-Gurugram commute times and lift property values along the corridor.
Gurugram Metro (under construction)
Gurugram's own 28.5 km elevated metro loop, 27 stations from Millennium City Centre round to Cyber City, is being built by Gurugram Metro Rail. Piling began in 2026 on the first stretch, to Sector 101, and the main corridor is targeted for around 2027.
Day-to-Day Transport
Personal Driver
Most professionals hire a full-time chauffeur (₹25k to 35k/month). Vetted Gurugram-specific driver agencies are common, IKAN coordinates RTO paperwork. The single biggest quality-of-life decision for Gurugram residents.
Ola / Uber
Both work well. Ola Corporate via Cyber City employer travel desks. Keep both apps, surge pricing during 5-10pm peak and rain makes both essential. Ola Outstation for one-way airport drops.
Auto-Rickshaws
Available across Gurugram but less metered than other cities. Negotiate the fare before boarding. Rapido Bike (₹50 to 150 for solo hops) is often faster and cheaper for short distances.
Employer Shuttles
Cyber City employer shuttles are common, most major MNCs run dedicated employee transport from key residential clusters (DLF Phase 1-5, Sushant Lok, Sectors 53-55). Confirm with your employer's travel desk on Day 1.
Coming from Bangalore, Mumbai or Hyderabad? The biggest adjustment is that driving in Gurugram is only bearable with a full-time driver. Test your commute in all three conditions, off-peak, peak (5:30-10pm), and monsoon, before settling on a permanent neighbourhood. The Rapid Metro from Cyber City to MG Road or Galleria is 10 minutes flat, use it during evening peaks. IKAN handles all RTO coordination for vehicle registration and driver licensing.

Apps to install
Gurugram's digital services are excellent, and most apps work reliably across the NCR. Download these before you arrive and your first week will be much easier.
Transport
Ola / UberKeep both. Ola surges less during rain. Ola Corporate accounts available through most Cyber City employers. Ola Outstation handles one-way airport drops and weekend-escape runs to Jaipur or Neemrana.
Delhi Metro & Rapid MetroDMRC app for Yellow Line into Gurugram. Rapid Metro Gurugram is a separately operated private metro, download its dedicated app. Both accept smart-card and QR ticketing.
RapidoBike taxis for fast solo hops, particularly useful during peak-hour traffic when a Rapido bike outpaces any car. Auto-rickshaw bookings also available through the same app.
Food, Grocery & Delivery
Zomato / SwiggyBoth cover Gurugram comprehensively. Delivery in 25 to 35 minutes across DLF Phases 1-5 and Golf Course Road. Zomato Gold membership worthwhile for regular restaurant orders.
Blinkit / Zepto / BigBasketBlinkit (Zomato) and Zepto for 10 to 15 minute instant delivery, universal in DLF area. BigBasket for weekly groceries. Modern Bazaar and Le Marché apps for imported and premium products.
Healthcare & Services
Practo / 1mg / Apollo247Practo for GP appointments at Medanta, Fortis, or Artemis. 1mg for online pharmacy and home sample collection. Apollo247 for video consultations. All operate in English with home delivery.
Urban CompanyHome services: AC servicing, deep cleaning, beauty, electricians, plumbers. Reliable, English-language interface, transparent pricing. The most useful app for managing your Gurugram home.
Utilities
Amazon Pay / PaytmHow most residents actually pay bills, electricity (DHBVN), mobile postpaid, credit card, gas and water, in one place. The DHBVN portal exists, but Amazon Pay and Paytm are simpler for recurring payments.
MyGate / NoBrokerHoodThe building app for gated societies, pay maintenance and utilities, log visitors, and raise maintenance tickets for plumbing, electrical or carpentry. Ask your RWA which one your complex uses.
Jio / Airtel / ACT FibernetJio and Airtel both excellent. ACT Fibernet for home broadband in DLF complexes. Port your existing mobile number, most operators handle Mumbai/Bangalore/Hyderabad number porting in 7 days.
